Theater and audio
What does a well-designed home theater in University Place include?
A good theater is engineered, not assembled from a shopping cart. This is how we approach sound, picture, furniture and control for living rooms, media rooms and dedicated theaters in University Place.
A well-designed University Place theater is engineered for the room. That means Amina invisible speakers or a conventional layout, Cambridge Audio amplification, Salamander furniture and Control4 scenes that run lights, shades and sources on one button. Rivas Technology Group designs sound, picture, furniture and control together before any equipment is chosen.

What separates a theater from a TV on the wall?
Design. Sound, light, furniture and control each get planned before any hardware is ordered. The rooms we see in University Place range from a great room with a wall of glass to a basement with no windows. The right answer for each is different. Display size comes from the seating distance and speaker layout from the room dimensions. Lighting comes from the windows, and control from who lives there. A theater that skips that step ends up with a large screen, thin dialogue and four remotes.
Why does the audio matter as much as the picture?
Because sound is what makes a scene feel present, and it is the part most rooms get wrong. We design around speakers and amplification from Cambridge Audio, AudioControl and Phase Technology, sized to the room rather than the marketing sheet, and calibrate the system after install. For rooms where no grille is welcome, Amina invisible speakers mount inside the wall or ceiling and are finished over. The sound comes from a surface that looks like plaster. Multi-room audio can share the same rack, so the music playing on the deck is the same system as the theater.
How does control work?
One button. With Control4, a "Movie" scene dims the lights, lowers the shades, powers the display and amplifier, selects the source and sets the volume. It runs from a remote, a keypad, a phone or a voice command. A "Dinner Party" scene starts music in the kitchen and dining room at a set level. Control4 interoperates with 25,000+ third-party products (Control4), which is what lets the theater, the lighting and the shades share one interface. The system works the same for a guest as for the person who set it up.
Where does the equipment go?
Out of sight, in a rack or in furniture designed for it. Salamander Designs builds AV cabinetry with ventilation, cable management and finishes that suit a living room. The room shows a screen and a credenza rather than a stack of boxes. In a dedicated theater the rack lives in a closet with a UPS and a fan, and every cable is labeled at both ends.
What about the rest of the house?
The theater is usually the first room, not the last. The same rack can feed music to the kitchen, the primary bedroom and the deck. The same Control4 scenes can run the lighting and shades in every room. A theater project is often the start of whole-home audio and control. Everything in the theater streams, so the network is checked first; a weak connection shows up as buffering that no speaker upgrade fixes (Wi-Fi and networking).
How does the process work?
Four steps. A conversation about how you use the room, then a site visit to measure it. A written proposal with the speaker layout and the equipment list, then installation and calibration by our own team. We work with homeowners, designers and builders in University Place on finished rooms, remodels and new construction; on a new build we prewire for speakers, projector and shades before drywall.
What drives the cost is the room type, whether living room, media room or dedicated theater, and the speaker count. It also depends on whether the display is a TV or a projector, and how much of the wiring is already in place. The instant quote gives you a range in minutes.
