What do you get with an Ajax home system?

A hub, detectors on the openings that matter, at least one detector that takes photos, a keypad, a siren, and any cameras or doorbell you want, all in one app. The hub is the core of the system. Hub 2 Plus talks to detectors over the encrypted Jeweller radio. It reaches up to 2,000 m in open space and connects to the outside world over Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two cellular SIM channels (Hub 2 Plus, Hub 2 manual). DoorProtect contacts go on entry doors and ground-floor windows. MotionProtect detectors cover rooms, with pet-immune models for households with dogs and cats.

MotionCam adds a camera to the motion detector, so an alarm arrives with a photo series instead of a guess (MotionCam). A KeyPad TouchScreen by the door arms and disarms with a code, a tag or a phone. A StreetSiren outside and a HomeSiren inside make the alarm loud where it counts.

Smoke, heat, CO and leak detectors run on the same radio, so a burst pipe under the sink reports the same way a forced door does. Ajax cameras and an Akuvox video doorbell sit in the same app as the intrusion system. Every Ajax device carries a 24-month warranty from date of sale, batteries excluded (Ajax warranty), and our workmanship carries 90 days.

What happens from motion to photo to dispatch?

The first photo reaches your phone within 9 seconds of a detector tripping (MotionCam). Here is the sequence at a back door in Puyallup at 2 a.m.:

1. Armed and polling. The hub checks every detector at an interval you choose between 12 and 300 seconds; 36 seconds is the default (Hub 2 manual). A detector that stops answering is reported.
2. Motion. MotionCam reads a human-sized heat signature and signals the hub.
3. Photo series. The detector shoots a single frame or a series of two to five and encrypts them on the way to the hub and the cloud.
4. Alarm. Sirens fire, the hub reports over whichever channels are up, and the photos land on your phone and, if you subscribe, at the central station.
5. Response. An operator reviews the photos, calls you, and dispatches police with a description of what the camera saw. Without monitoring, you make that call yourself with the same photos in hand.

What drives the cost?

The count of openings and rooms, the share of detectors that take photos, cameras and a doorbell, and whether you add professional monitoring. A hub, keypad, four door contacts and two MotionCams covers a typical rambler in Kent. A two-storey home with a detached garage in Gig Harbor adds a range extender and outdoor detectors. A waterfront house with a dock adds cameras.

Installation is one line in the proposal and covers design, mounting, configuration, device-by-device testing, monitoring registration and the walkthrough. You own every device from the day it goes on the wall. There is no contract and no leased equipment, and self-monitoring through the app is free (Why Ajax). Self-monitor or professional monitoring?

Both work; the difference is who acts when you do not answer. Ajax states that the system is free to operate when you self-monitor (Why Ajax): push alerts, photo series and arm-and-disarm from anywhere, with no monthly fee. Professional monitoring adds Becklar, a UL-listed central station, staffed 24 hours a day, that reviews the photos, calls your contacts in order, and dispatches when you cannot be reached.

It is month to month: start it for the summer you travel and stop it when you are home. Smoke, leak and panic signals go to the station too. We register the system with the station and with the city where a rule applies. In Tacoma the alarm company pays the annual device fee for each customer (City of Tacoma), so there is nothing for you to file.

For the yard, live guards can watch the cameras on the driveway or the back gate and talk to anyone there through the camera's speaker. That is remote video monitoring, $110 a month for the first camera as of October 2026, on a one-year term.

Does it work with Control4?

Yes. Ajax intrusion connects to Control4 through the Chowmain driver, so you arm and disarm from a Control4 keypad, touch screen or the app. Security events fire scenes: lights on when the alarm trips, shades up when you disarm in the morning, the movie paused when the doorbell rings. We are a Control4 Authorized Dealer, listed on Control4's integrator map, and Ajax is the security platform we design into Control4 homes.

Control4 runs in over 500,000 homes and works with 25,000+ third-party products (Control4), so the same system can drive locks, garage doors and cameras. Yale locks connect through the Ajax integration module and RTSP cameras you already own can be added to the Ajax app; we confirm each model before quoting. For a new smart lock, we recommend Alfred. The DB2S deadbolt opens with a PIN, an RFID card or a Bluetooth key shared from the Alfred Home app, runs on a rechargeable battery and takes a Wi-Fi, Z-Wave or Zigbee add-on (Alfred). A Control4 driver for Alfred locks, developed by Rivas Technology Group, is in field testing on our projects.

What happens from consultation to walkthrough?

Four steps, each with a time you can plan around:

1. Walk-through, 45 to 60 minutes. We walk every entry with you and note detached buildings and pets. We run a Jeweller signal test where range is in doubt, and ask how security should talk to your lighting and network. There is no charge.
2. Proposal, within two business days. A written scope listing each device, where it goes, and what installation and monitoring include.
3. Install, four to five hours for most wireless homes. We mount, configure, test each detector from its final position, register monitoring, and connect Control4 if you have it. A hybrid job with wired Fibra lines in new construction takes one to two days.
4. Walkthrough, 30 minutes. You arm, disarm and trigger a test alarm yourself before we leave, and every adult in the house gets their own user in the app.
