Theater and audio

What does a custom home theater in Puyallup include?

Movie night should be one button: lights down, shades down, show on. This is what we design and install for Puyallup homeowners who want more than a TV on the wall, and what decides the cost.

A custom Puyallup home theater from Rivas Technology Group includes a display sized to the room and Phase Technology, Cambridge Audio or Genelec sound. It adds lighting and shade scenes, Control4 one-button control, and prewire for South Hill new builds. The room, the gear and the wiring set the cost, quoted as a fixed price.

What does a custom theater do for you?

Four things a TV on the wall does not. Control is one remote or app for the display, the sound, the lights and the shades. Sound is balanced to the room, so dialogue is clear without the volume up. Ambiance comes from lighting and shading that move with the scene. And a dedicated theater or media room is a feature buyers notice in a Puyallup home. The technology is the means; the point is that you use the room.

How do we design the room?

From the architecture and the acoustics, not from a package. Every project starts with room analysis and speaker placement, then acoustic treatment for clarity and balance, custom cabinetry and concealed wiring, and integration with Control4. A dedicated theater, a living-room cinema and a multi-purpose family room each get that process, scaled to the space.

Which rooms do Puyallup homeowners choose?

Three, in most projects. A dedicated theater, usually a basement or bonus room, gets projection, a full surround layout, acoustic treatment and theater seating. A living-room cinema keeps the room a living room, with a large display or short-throw projector, in-wall or in-ceiling speakers and a hidden subwoofer. A multi-purpose family room is set up for movies, games and sports in an open plan, with speakers placed to keep the sound in the seating area. Each gets the same design process at a different scale, and each can be built to grow.

What equipment do we use?

Speakers and amplification from Phase Technology, Cambridge Audio and Genelec, with high-resolution projectors or OLED displays chosen for the room's light. The aim is sound that fills the room without overpowering it and a picture matched to the seating distance. We calibrate every system after installation, so what you hear is what the mix intended rather than what the box shipped with.

How does Control4 run it?

One button. A "Movie Night" scene dims the lights, lowers the PowerShades, powers on the projector and loads the streaming app. "Sports" raises the lights and opens the shades. The same scenes run from a remote, a wall keypad, a phone or a voice command, and the theater joins the rest of the house. Control4 runs in over 500,000 homes and interoperates with 25,000+ third-party products (Control4). So lighting, shades and audio from different makers behave as one system.

What do Puyallup homes need?

Design that fits new construction on South Hill and remodels downtown. We work with homeowners and builders to keep the system discreet: in-wall speakers, hidden subwoofers, equipment in a rack or cabinet, and cabling that no one sees. If you are building new, we prewire for surround sound, projection and shading before drywall goes up, which saves money and avoids opening finished walls later. The network gets the same attention, because a theater streams (Wi-Fi and networking).

What drives the cost?

Room type, speaker count, display choice and wiring. A living-room upgrade with a display, a soundbar-replacement speaker system and control is the smallest job; a dedicated theater with projection, Atmos speakers, acoustic treatment and seating is the largest. Open walls lower labor; finished walls raise it. The instant quote gives a range in minutes, and a measure visit turns it into a written proposal.

Questions we hear

Can a living room be a theater?

Yes. A living-room cinema uses a large display or short-throw projector, in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, a hidden subwoofer and the same one-button control as a dedicated room.

Should I prewire a new build?

Yes. Speaker, projector, display and shade wiring before drywall costs a fraction of retrofitting it, even if the equipment comes a year later.

What does Control4 add to a theater?

One remote or app for everything: a Movie Night scene dims the lights, lowers the PowerShades, powers the projector and loads the streaming app in one press.

Does a theater add resale value?

A well-built media room or dedicated theater is a selling feature in Puyallup, but the reason to build one is that you will use it every week.
