What is Akuvox? Where an office already runs UniFi, we install UniFi Access on its doors instead, as at Binaytara in Bellevue.

Akuvox is an IP video intercom and access control platform. A door phone sits at the entry, an indoor monitor or phone app answers it, and a cloud portal manages who gets in. We install it as an Akuvox certified installer; Ivan Rivas holds the ACIA and ACII certifications from the Akuvox training program12.

The X912S is the door phone we specify most for gates and single entries. It has a 4-inch touchscreen, dual cameras, a 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz card reader, a stainless front panel, and an IP65 and IK10 rating3. Video streams at up to 1080p, the camera stays on permanently, and the door opens by face, card, PIN or Bluetooth4. QR codes issued from the app are the fifth method5. It carries two relay outputs and three relay inputs6.

One PoE+ cable powers it under 802.3at, with 12 V DC as the alternative7. The E-series covers homes and small offices: the E16 and the 7-inch E18 both read faces, cards, PINs and Bluetooth89.

The R-series is the multi-tenant line. The R29 is an Android door phone with a 7-inch screen, three relays in and out, and card, NFC, Bluetooth and QR entry1011. Inside, an Akuvox indoor monitor such as the 7-inch S562 or the Android S567 answers the door from the wall12. The SmartPlus app answers it from your phone, opens the door, and issues time-limited PIN and QR keys for visitors and couriers1314. Akubela, Akuvox's smart-home line, is an option where you want an in-wall panel that also handles scenes and climate15.

Where does it work?

At a gated driveway, a front door, an office entry, a warehouse door, or the lobby of a multifamily building. At a gate we mount the door phone in a surface enclosure and reuse sound low-voltage wiring and the existing strike or operator input. A wired router and a UPS go at the gate, so nothing depends on Wi-Fi from the house. The Mercer Island gate upgrade is that job on one page. At a home in Gig Harbor or Puyallup, an E16 at the door and an indoor monitor in the kitchen replace the doorbell and the peephole. At a business in Kent or Tacoma, the intercom becomes the door's access control. Each employee gets a face or fob, the cleaner gets a code that expires, and the audit log answers who opened the door and when. Business security covers the cameras and alarm around it.

In a multifamily building, the R29, X915 V2 or X916 shows a tenant directory at the entrance. The SmartPlus property manager portal holds buildings, apartments, resident accounts, per-tenant credentials and permitted elevator floors16. How does it connect to Ajax and Control4?

Through the network, as one system in two apps, without a custom driver we would have to write ourselves. Akuvox publishes its own Control4 driver and integration guide1718. The door phone is discovered in Composer as a door station and its relay is bound to a Control4 door lock. The S567 indoor monitor can be discovered the same way19.

The X912, R29, R25A, R20 V5, E12 and the X915 and X916 can also fire a Control4 event when a resident opens the door with a credential20. In practice, the gate call rings a Control4 touch screen, the camera view appears in the Control4 interface, and the door releases from it. Your face opens the gate at night and the driveway lights come on.

Akubela panels integrate with Control4 by a separate Akuvox procedure21. We are a Control4 Authorized Dealer, listed on Control4's integrator map, and Akuvox requires specific firmware for the driver, so we confirm the model and firmware before quoting.

For Ajax there is no published Akuvox driver, so we connect at the system level. A DoorProtect contact on the gate, or the gate's wired contact through a MultiTransmitter, reports open and closed to the Ajax hub beside the alarm22. The door phone's RTSP stream can be added to the Ajax app, which accepts any RTSP camera23. So a visitor's face at the gate and an alarm at the back door show up in the same place. What does it cost?

Five things set the price of a single door: door hardware, cable run, whether existing wiring can be reused, the door phone model, and what answers it inside. An electric strike already in the door is the cheapest case. A maglock needs its own power supply, and a gate operator needs a dry-contact input wired to a relay. A PoE port within cable reach of the door keeps the run to one cable. A gate at the end of a long drive needs a router, a PoE injector and a UPS at the gate.

The X912S costs more than an E12 and less than an R29, and a face-reading model costs more than a card reader. An indoor monitor adds a device; answering on the app alone does not. A multifamily lobby adds directory setup, resident onboarding and the SmartPlus subscription. Control4 programming is its own line when you have it. Published prices are not on this page. What happens when someone rings?

The call reaches your phone in seconds, with video, wherever you are. The sequence at a gate in Tehaleh:

1. The visitor presses the button or is recognized. A resident's face, card, PIN, Bluetooth phone or QR code opens the gate at once and writes a log entry4. A visitor presses the call button.
2. The call rings the devices you chose. SmartPlus can ring every indoor monitor and app account at once. It can also call devices, family members and a phone number in a set order16.
3. You see and talk. Live 1080p video with night illumination, two-way audio, on the wall monitor or the phone.
4. You open the gate. A tap on the monitor or the app closes the relay, and the operator swings the gate.
5. The event is logged. The door phone keeps an entry log with access records that can be exported4.

When the internet is down, the door phone still matches face, PIN and card credentials stored on the device. An indoor monitor on the same network still takes the call. Akuvox also documents a call-transfer mode that pushes credential data to an offline door phone through the monitor24. What pauses is app calling and remote release from outside the property.

What comes with it?

Design, staging, installation, credentials and a walkthrough, from one team. We start at the door or gate: what hardware is there, what wiring is in the ground, where the nearest network drop is, and who needs to get in. We configure the door phone, monitor and cloud profiles in our lab before the site day, so the visit is mounting, wiring and testing rather than setup. We wire the relay to the strike, maglock or operator, run or reuse the cable, and add the router, PoE injector and UPS a gate needs.

We enroll faces, cards and PINs, set up SmartPlus accounts, issue a visitor key with you, and test every entry method from its final position. If you have Control4, we add the driver and bind the door; if you have Ajax, we add the gate contact and the video stream. Existing Sentex or DoorKing wiring and strikes that test sound are reused, not replaced. You own the hardware. Any SmartPlus subscription is listed as its own line. After the install, support covers service visits and remote diagnostics, and CURATOR keeps the whole system under remote care.
