What does Control4 do in a South Sound home?

It puts lighting, shades, audio, video, climate, locks and security on one system that you run from a keypad, a remote, a touch screen, the app or your voice. Our post on single-app control with Josh.ai and Control4 walks through each system. A Control4 controller sits on the home network and talks to each device through a driver written for that model.

Control4 lists lights, shades, TVs, music, heating and cooling, security, sprinklers, garage doors, fireplaces and pools among the systems it controls1. The platform runs in over 500,000 homes, orchestrates over 15 million connected devices, works with 25,000+ third-party products and is installed by nearly 6,000 integrators2. The current software is Control4 X4, OS 4.1, released 2025-09-033.

In a Tacoma or Gig Harbor house that means scenes. The "Away" scene turns off the lights, drops the shades, sets the thermostat back and arms the alarm in one press. The "Movie" scene dims the room, closes the shades and starts the projector. The systems behind those scenes each have a page: smart lighting, motorized shades, home theater and audio, Josh.ai voice control and Wi-Fi and networking. Control4 is one part of the residential work we do.

Does Control4 work with Ajax security?

Yes. We link the Ajax hub to Control4 through a Control4 driver, so you arm and disarm from any Control4 keypad, touch screen or the app. Security events drive the house. A MotionCam alarm, which delivers its first photo within 9 seconds4, brings up the exterior lights and puts the camera view on the kitchen touch screen. A door opening after dark lights the entry.

Ajax keeps its own app and its own monitoring path. Jeweller radio reaches up to 2,000 m in open space with detector polling every 12 to 300 seconds5. Reporting runs over Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two cellular SIMs on the Hub 2 Plus6, with a 24-month warranty7. Control4 adds the automation; it does not replace the alarm panel or its monitoring. Read residential security and why we build on Ajax.

What does Control4 cost installed?

Entry systems run about $15,000 to $25,000 and whole-home systems $35,000 to $100,000 or more, as of September 2026. An entry system for a 2,500 to 3,500 square foot home includes a Core controller, six to ten dimmers and keypads, a remote or touchscreen, a managed network and programming. A whole-home system adds shades, Ajax security integration, climate, audio in every zone, touch screens and a ventilated rack.

Open walls in new construction lower the labor; a finished home leans on wireless dimmers and battery shades. Control4's 4Sight subscription, about $10 a month per Control4's documentation8, adds remote app access, owner-built automations and voice assistants; local control works without it. How does Control4 compare with Crestron and Savant?

Control4 fits most South Sound homes, Crestron fits estates and commercial buildings that need custom programming across many subsystems, and Savant fits buyers who want an Apple-style interface above all. The rows below quote the two comparison guides we send clients, plus Control4's own figures. Below all three sits Brilliant, the in-wall panel we install as the affordable tier for mid-market homes, ADUs and rentals.

We install Control4 for three reasons. It covers the systems a South Sound home has, the drivers exist for the products we specify, and the cost lands where a family remodel can afford it. If your project is a multi-building estate with dozens of subsystems, Crestron may fit better, and we will say so at the walk-through.

Why does Control4 need a dealer?

Because Control4 is installed through its network of nearly 6,000 authorized integrators, who install the hardware and configure the software2. There is no box to buy and set up yourself. The dealer confirms a driver exists for each model in the house, builds the rooms and scenes, and sizes the network the controller depends on. The dealer also owns the changes afterward: a new TV, a new thermostat, a rule that should fire ten minutes later.

We are a Control4 Authorized Dealer, listed on Control4's integrator map, with WA electrical contractor license RIVASGL799DR12. We hold CEDIA membership 2022 to 2026, BBB accreditation with an A+ rating, and 5.0 from 49 Google reviews. Our own team designs and installs in homes; on commercial projects we bring in licensed trade partners under our design and supervision. The people are on about us.

What happens after the install?

The same people who programmed the house answer the phone. Before that: we call or text back within one business day, walk the property with you, and send a fixed proposal that lists what each room gets.

Installation takes three to seven days on site for a typical home. Network and rack come first, then devices, then programming, then a room-by-room walkthrough until every scene does what you expect. After the install you have a 90-day workmanship warranty, support at published rates, and the optional CURATOR remote care plan. CURATOR monitors the controller and the network and fixes most issues remotely.

Where do we install Control4?

South King County and Pierce County, from 415 Railroad Ave S in Kent. Dedicated pages: Tacoma, Puyallup and Gig Harbor. We also install in Kent, Renton, Tukwila, Federal Way, Auburn, Covington and Maple Valley, Sumner, Bonney Lake, Tehaleh and University Place. Olympic Peninsula by appointment.

Questions we hear

Is there a monthly fee for Control4?

Local control has no fee. Control4's 4Sight subscription, about $10 a month per Control4's documentation as of September 2026, adds remote app access away from home, owner-built automations and voice assistant links. We set it up if you want it and the system runs without it.

Can I install Control4 myself?

No. Control4 is installed through its network of authorized integrators, who install the hardware and configure the software. Programming, drivers and updates come through the dealer, which is why choosing one is the first decision.

Will Control4 work with devices I already own?

Usually. Control4 works with 25,000+ third-party products. We check the driver for your exact model of thermostat, TV, lock or garage opener during the walk-through before it goes in the proposal.

Does Control4 keep working if the internet goes down?

Control in the house continues on the local network: keypads, remotes, touch screens and the app on home Wi-Fi. Remote access from outside, streaming and voice assistants need the internet back.

Can you add Control4 to a finished home?

Yes. Wireless dimmers, Ajax security, rechargeable shade motors and Wi-Fi thermostats need no new wiring. A controller, a rack and any hardwired keypads go where cable can reach, and we plan those runs with you first.

How long does a Control4 installation take?

Three to seven days on site for a typical home, network and rack first, then devices, then programming and a room-by-room walkthrough. New construction runs across several phases with the builder's schedule.

Does Ajax security work inside Control4?

Yes. A Control4 driver links the Ajax hub, so you arm and disarm from Control4 keypads, touch screens and the app, and alarms trigger lights and camera views. Ajax keeps its own app and monitoring path as well.

What support comes after the install?

A room-by-room walkthrough, a 90-day workmanship warranty, support at published rates and the optional CURATOR remote care plan, which monitors the system and fixes most issues remotely.
