What makes Gig Harbor security different?
Distance between buildings and time between visits. A typical property we see here has a main house, a detached shop or garage, and a boathouse or dock. The driveway runs 200 feet through trees to the road. Many of them sit empty for weeks while the owners travel. A doorbell camera on the front porch covers none of that.
Ajax fits the layout because the detectors talk to the hub by radio. The Hub 2 manual rates the Jeweller link at up to 2,000 m in open space. It also says each detector checks in on a polling interval you set between 12 and 300 seconds1. A door sensor on the boathouse, an outdoor MotionCam on the shop, and a flood sensor under the water heater all report to the same hub without a trench. Where the trees are thick, a range extender bridges the gap.
The drive from our Kent office at 415 Railroad Ave S is about 40 minutes by I-5 and SR-16.
Which Gig Harbor neighborhoods do we serve?
Fox Island, Canterwood, Harbor Hill, Artondale, the downtown waterfront and Purdy, with the Key Peninsula scheduled the same way. Canterwood and Harbor Hill homes are newer and often pre-wired, so cameras go on cable and the alarm stays wireless. Fox Island and the older waterfront lots are where the outbuilding-and-dock design above earns its keep. Downtown properties near the harbor get cameras aimed at the water side as well as the street, because that is where visitors arrive.
What is in a Gig Harbor home security system?
An Ajax Hub 2 Plus, door and window sensors, MotionCam detectors inside and out, a keypad and cameras. MotionCam sends the first photo within 9 seconds of detection2. The Hub 2 Plus keeps Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two cellular SIMs live at once3, so the system reports even when the cable internet on the peninsula goes down. Flood, smoke and temperature sensors ride the same radio. Every device carries the Ajax 24-month warranty4. The platform is explained on the home security page.
How do you protect a house that is empty for a month?
By making the system report absence as well as presence. The hub tells you if a detector loses contact or a battery runs low. Cameras alert on people and vehicles rather than on rain and deer, so a notification from an empty house means something. A flood sensor under the kitchen sink sends a message the day a fitting fails, not the day you get home. With a Control4 integration the same alarm state can run lights and shades on a schedule, which is the presence simulation many Gig Harbor owners ask for. We wrote about that pairing in two earlier posts: smart home security and surveillance in Gig Harbor and integrated home security systems for Gig Harbor homes.
How does a verified alarm reach a deputy?
A detector trips, MotionCam photographs the space, and the hub sends the burst over whichever channel is alive. An operator at Becklar, a UL-listed central station reviews it, calls you, and dispatches with a verified description if it is real. Gig Harbor addresses inside city limits go to Gig Harbor Police; unincorporated Fox Island, Artondale and Purdy go to the Pierce County Sheriff. Either way the call carries a photo, not a guess. Self-monitoring sends the same photo to your phone with no monthly fee.
What drives the cost?
Building count and camera cable. A single house needs one hub and a handful of detectors. A house plus shop plus dock needs outdoor detectors, possibly a range extender, and cameras with cable to each structure or a wireless bridge between them. Cloud recording adds a per-camera monthly charge; local recording does not. Ajax hardware is yours and monitoring is month to month with no term. We do not publish Ajax kit or install prices on this page. The Ajax cost page explains what moves the number, and the instant quote gives you one for your property.
Who monitors it?
A UL-listed central station, staffed 24 hours a day. Operators see the MotionCam photo before they act. You can move between monitoring and self-monitoring at any time.

Questions we hear
Can one alarm cover the house, the shop and the dock?
Usually, yes. Ajax's Jeweller radio reaches up to 2,000 m in open space per the Hub 2 manual, and a range extender handles a wooded lot. Each detector checks in on a 12 to 300 second interval, so a boathouse sensor that goes quiet is reported.
How does 24/7 monitoring work in Gig Harbor?
A live operator at Becklar, a UL-listed central station sees the MotionCam photo and calls you. If it is real, the operator dispatches Pierce County deputies or Gig Harbor Police with a verified description. Monitoring is month to month; self-monitoring through the app is free.
SimpliSafe, Vivint or ADT in Gig Harbor?
Those are a DIY kit, a contracted install and a contracted monitoring plan. Ajax is professionally installed hardware you own outright, photo verification on every alarm, and monitoring you can stop any month. No activation fee, no term.
How much does home security installation cost in Gig Harbor?
Angi reports a Gig Harbor average near $700 with a $280 to $1,150 range for basic systems, as of September 2026. Waterfront properties with outbuildings run higher because of detector count and camera cable. We do not publish Ajax prices; the instant quote gives you a number.
What about a home that is empty for a month?
The hub reports every detector's health and battery, cameras alert on people and vehicles, and a Control4 integration can run lights on a presence schedule. Flood and freeze sensors on the same radio catch a burst pipe before it becomes a claim.
Do you cover Fox Island and Purdy?
Yes. Fox Island, Canterwood, Harbor Hill, Artondale, downtown and Purdy are all in our normal Gig Harbor service area. Key Peninsula addresses are scheduled the same way.
How far is Gig Harbor from your office?
About 45 minutes from 415 Railroad Ave S in Kent by I-5 and SR-16 across the Narrows. We group Gig Harbor site visits and service calls so a Tuesday request is usually seen that week.
