What does a smart home installation include?
One team does the whole job, so nothing falls between trades:
- Design. We walk the house with you, ask how each room is used, and turn that into a plan: which lights, speakers, cameras, sensors and screens go where, and what each button does.
- Pre-wire. In a new build or remodel, cable goes in at framing, before the walls close. In a finished home we fish cable where it matters and use wireless devices everywhere else.
- Installation. The network, the equipment rack, dimmers and keypads, speakers, cameras and Ajax security, mounted and tested device by device.
- Programming. Control4 scenes, schedules and the app, set up so a single button runs lighting, shades, music and the alarm together.
- Support. A room-by-room walkthrough at handover, a one-year workmanship warranty, and the optional CURATOR care plan for updates and remote checks.
How it works
- Tell us about the project. The short form on this page, or call (425) 954-6003. We call or text back within one business day.
- Walk-through. We visit the home, look at the rooms and the wiring, and talk through what you want each space to do.
- Fixed proposal. You get a written proposal, room by room, with a fixed price before any work starts.
- Install and handover. Our own team installs and programs it, then walks you through every room.
Recent work
In an Auburn custom home we were brought in right after electrical and finished the house on Control4: lighting, whole-home audio and video, networking, security and cameras, run from keypads, touchscreens and the app. In an Olympia custom home we pre-wired once, during construction, so the owners could add Control4 lighting a year later without opening walls. In a North Bend home we brought Wi-Fi 6 to every room over the existing cable in a single visit.
A home automation company that stays after the install
Most of our calls come from people who already tried a pile of apps, or whose last installer stopped answering. We design systems we can support, document what we install, and pick up the phone when something needs attention. That is the difference between a smart home installation and a house full of smart devices.
Questions we hear
How much does smart home installation cost?
As of September 2026, a Control4 entry system runs $15,000 to $25,000 and a whole-home system $35,000 to $100,000 or more. Single systems such as Ajax security or one room of lighting cost less. The cost page lists every range with what it includes, and the walk-through ends with a fixed price.
Do I need a licensed contractor to install a smart home?
For anything wired into the house, yes. In Washington, low-voltage and line-voltage work such as dimmers, keypads and new cable runs is electrical work. Rivas Technology Group is a WA electrical contractor, license RIVASGL799DR, bonded and insured.
How long does smart home installation take?
For a finished home, usually three to seven days on site: network and rack, then devices, then programming and a walkthrough. A new build runs in phases with the builder, pre-wire at framing and trim after paint.
Can you install a smart home in a house that is already built?
Yes. Wireless dimmers and keypads replace the existing switches, Ajax security devices need no new wire, and speakers and access points go where cable can be fished. We plan any new runs with you before we start.
What does a smart home installer actually do?
Designs the system around how you live, runs and terminates the cable, mounts and connects the equipment, programs scenes and schedules, walks you through it, and answers the phone afterward. A device setup service stops at connecting gadgets.
Is professional installation worth it over doing it myself?
For a few smart plugs, no. For lighting, audio, cameras and security that should work together and keep working, a designed and wired system is more reliable. We compare the two honestly in DIY versus professional installation.
Do you work with builders and remodelers?
Yes. We draw the pre-wire plan before permits, rough in at framing, trim after paint and commission before closing, with one fixed proposal per plan. See for builders.
Which areas do you serve?
Kent, Renton, Tukwila, Federal Way, Auburn, Covington, Maple Valley, Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, Bonney Lake, Tehaleh, University Place and Gig Harbor, from our office in Kent. Olympic Peninsula by appointment.
