What does outdoor automation deliver?

One touch and the patio is ready. Lights come to a warm level, music fades in, the shades drop against the low sun and the heater comes on, from a keypad, a phone or a voice command. How does audio reach the yard?

Over the network, zone by zone. We install Tyba Muse streamers feeding Genelec Smart IP and SoundTube PoE outdoor speakers, so each zone is powered and fed by one cable and the sound is balanced across the property rather than blasting from one corner. Because the system is IP-based, playback is synchronized across zones with low latency, a dinner under the pergola and a conversation by the fire pit can have different volumes, and zones can be added later without rebuilding.

What does outdoor lighting do?

Sets the scene and makes the paths safe. With Pure Smart Lighting and Coastal Source fixtures we build layered scenes: "Evening Entertain" for warm ambient light and soft accents, "Pathway Safe" for discreet, motion-triggered light on walks, decks and stairs. Brightness, color temperature and timing are adjusted from Control4, Tyba or a voice assistant without leaving the chair, and the safety lighting follows sunset on its own.

How do you stay comfortable in the shoulder seasons?

Shades, heaters, fans and screens on the same control. PowerShades outdoor shades manage sun and privacy at the touch of a button, and automated heaters, fans and screens keep the space usable when the weather turns. The elements work together: the shades lower as the afternoon sun swings around, and the lights and music adjust with them.

Will it survive Washington weather?

Yes, if it is specified for it. Moisture, cold and summer heat are the enemies of outdoor electronics, so we use weatherproof networking, PoE lighting and outdoor-rated speakers, mount them where water and ice do not collect, and test and tune each system after install. Everything runs on one automation platform, so you control, monitor and update it from anywhere. Control4 interoperates with 25,000+ third-party products (Control4), which is what lets outdoor audio, lighting and shades from different makers share one scene.

How does the network reach the yard?

On wire, with a wired outdoor access point for the phones. Streamers, PoE speakers and PoE lighting each run on an Ethernet cable from a switch in the house, which is why they stay reliable in weather and under load. People on the patio need Wi-Fi, so an outdoor-rated access point is mounted on the house or a structure and cabled back like the others, with its color matched to the trim (case study). What drives the cost?

Zone count, fixture count, cable runs and the outdoor network. A patio with two speaker zones, a lighting scene and one access point is a modest job; a full property with pathway lighting, several audio zones, outdoor shades and heaters is a large one.
