Project: office access control on the Eastside
Binaytara, Bellevue:
three doors on UniFi Access
A nonprofit's office suite in Bellevue already ran on UniFi for its network. The doors still ran on keys. We installed UniFi Access on three doors, a hub per door above the ceiling and a reader at each one, and brought it up inside the UniFi console the office already used. Staff badge, tap a phone or enter a PIN; the manager issues and revokes credentials from the same dashboard as the Wi-Fi.
Rivas Technology Group installed a UniFi Access door control system on three doors of Binaytara's office suite in Bellevue, WA. Each door has a UniFi Access Hub above the ceiling and a reader at the frame. Staff use NFC cards, the mobile app or a PIN on the main entrance, all programmed into the UniFi stack the office already ran.
- Client
- Binaytara, a Bellevue nonprofit
- City
- Bellevue, WA, Eastgate area
- Scope
- UniFi Access on three office-suite doors: a hub per door, readers, strikes, door position sensors
- Credentials
- NFC cards, the UniFi Access mobile app, and a PIN keypad on the main entrance reader
- Integration
- Programmed into the UniFi console the office already ran for its network
- Result
- Keys retired; credentials issued and revoked from the same dashboard as the Wi-Fi
What was the problem?
Binaytara, a Bellevue nonprofit working on cancer care and education, had an office suite with a modern UniFi network and doors that still ran on keys. Keys do not expire, do not log anything and cannot be revoked from a desk. The office needed staff credentials on three doors, a way to issue and revoke them without a locksmith, and no second system to learn.

What did we design?
Door control on the platform the office already ran. UniFi Access is a separate UniFi application that runs on the same console as UniFi Network1, so the office manager gets doors, users and schedules in the dashboard they already open for the Wi-Fi. Each door got its own UniFi Access Hub above the ceiling, powered over Ethernet from the existing switch, driving an electric strike and reading a door position sensor2. The main entrance got a touchscreen reader with a camera and PIN keypad; the interior doors got compact NFC readers.
What did we install?
Three UniFi Access Hubs on strut above the ceiling, each on a new Ethernet run back to the PoE switch. Three readers at the frames. Electric strikes and door position sensors on the three doors. Then the programming: the site and doors in UniFi Access, unlock schedules for business hours, staff credentials as NFC cards and app keys, and a PIN on the main entrance for the days a card is at home. Every event lands in the same log as the rest of the UniFi stack.

What changed?
Keys retired. Staff badge in, tap a phone or enter a PIN. A new hire gets credentials from the manager's desk; a departure loses them the same afternoon. The audit log answers who opened which door and when. Nothing new to learn, because the doors live where the network already did.
Where is this project?
Bellevue, WA, in the Eastgate area, about 20 miles from our office at 415 Railroad Ave S in Kent by I-405. That is inside our 20-mile band, so no travel fee applied. Eastside offices are served under the terms on the pricing page, and Bellevue homes on the Bellevue smart home page.
What drives the cost of a project like this?
Door count, the door hardware already in place, and whether the office has a UniFi console and PoE switch ports. An office that already runs UniFi is the cheap case: a hub, a reader, a strike and a sensor per door, plus the Ethernet runs and the programming. An office on another platform needs the console added, or a different access platform, which the walk-through decides. The proposal is itemized per door.
Similar project?
Offices, clinics, nonprofits and small professional suites across Bellevue, Kent, Renton, Tukwila, Tacoma and the South Sound get the same design. Where the office runs UniFi, the doors join it. Where a building needs a video intercom and a tenant directory, Akuvox is the platform, on the intercom and access control page. Cameras and intrusion for the same suite are on the business security page.
Why Rivas Technology Group
WA electrical contractor license RIVASGL799DR, active, bonded and insured3. We install UniFi, Ruckus and Akuvox on networks we design and document, and support them under CURATOR from Kent.
Questions we hear
Why UniFi Access instead of a separate access control brand?
Because the office already ran UniFi for routing, switching and Wi-Fi. UniFi Access is a separate application that runs on the same UniFi console1, so the manager got door control in the dashboard they already knew, with no second vendor, second login or second monthly bill.
What is on each door?
A UniFi Access Hub above the ceiling, powered over Ethernet, which drives the electric strike and reads the door position sensor2. At the frame, a reader: a compact NFC reader on the interior doors and a touchscreen reader with a camera and PIN keypad on the main entrance.
How do staff get in?
Three ways, all issued by the office manager from the UniFi console. An NFC card or fob, the UniFi Access app on a phone, or a PIN on the main entrance keypad. A departed employee's credentials are revoked in the dashboard the same afternoon, and the audit log shows who opened which door and when.
Where does this fit against Akuvox?
Akuvox is what we install when a building needs a video intercom with a tenant directory, as on the multifamily page. UniFi Access is the right answer for an office that already runs UniFi and needs credentials on its own doors. Both are on the intercom and access control page.
Do you work in Bellevue?
Yes. Eastgate, Factoria and the rest of south and east Bellevue sit inside our 20-mile band from Kent, with no travel fee. Downtown and West Bellevue carry the $150 mobilization fee on the pricing page, as of September 2026. Bellevue homes are on the Bellevue smart home page.
