Ajax Systems cameras in Control4: how the Rivas Technology Group camera driver works
Rivas Technology Group's Ajax Camera driver for Control4 shows Ajax Baseline camera video on every Control4 screen and turns the camera's AI detections into Control4 events. This post covers what it does, which Ajax Systems cameras it works with, what it needs, and how it differs from the Ajax alarm driver.
To add Ajax Systems cameras to Control4, use Rivas Technology Group's Ajax Camera driver for Control4. It connects to Ajax Baseline cameras (TurretCam, BulletCam and DomeCam, including HL models) over ONVIF on the local network, with no cloud and no Ajax account. It shows live video on Control4 touchscreens, the Control4 app and on-screen TV, and turns person, vehicle, pet, line-crossing and motion detections into Control4 events. It requires Control4 OS 3.4.0 or later, runs free for 14 days, and a lifetime license is $149 per Control4 project.

Is there a Control4 driver for Ajax cameras?
Yes. Rivas Technology Group's Ajax Camera driver for Control4 brings Ajax Systems cameras into Control4: live video on every Control4 screen, and the camera's AI detections as Control4 events you can program against. We build and support it ourselves, and it is on our driver page with a free 14-day trial.
It works with the Ajax Baseline IP cameras: TurretCam, BulletCam and DomeCam Mini, in 5 MP and 8 MP, including the HL models with hybrid light.
Real screen recordings from one of our own sites: live view, AI detection events, filtering, and a line-crossing clip played back in the Control4 app.
Camera driver or alarm driver: which one do you need?
Ajax Systems makes two different things that people want in Control4, and each has its own driver.
- The Ajax alarm (the hub, sensors, keypads and sirens) connects through the Chowmain driver that Ajax Systems lists on its integrations page. It arms, disarms and reports alarm status. Our post on how the Ajax Control4 alarm driver works covers it.
- Ajax Systems cameras connect through Rivas Technology Group's Ajax Camera driver for Control4. It handles video and detections, not the alarm.
A home with both an Ajax alarm and Ajax cameras uses both drivers, side by side.
What the Ajax Camera driver does in Control4
Rivas Technology Group's Ajax Camera driver for Control4 does six things:
- Live video on every screen. Main and sub streams on Control4 touchscreens, the Control4 app and on-screen TV, through Control4's camera proxy.
- AI detections as Control4 events. Person, vehicle, pet, other, line-crossing and motion become Control4 events, variables and conditionals. A vehicle at the gate can turn on the driveway lights; a person at the back door after dark can show that camera on the TV.
- History and playback. Each event lands in the Control4 app's History timeline with a playback link that opens the camera's SD card recording at that moment.
- Picture control. Day and night mode, Wide Dynamic Range and picture levels as programming commands, as far as the camera supports them.
- Local and private. The driver talks to each camera directly over ONVIF on the local network. No cloud, no Ajax account, nothing opened to the internet, and the Ajax app keeps working alongside.
- Set and forget. The driver names the Control4 device from the camera, and its settings, counters and playback links survive reboots and driver updates.
What it needs
- Control4 OS 3.4.0 or later. Requires Control4 OS 3.4.0 or later. It is built for Control4 X4 and was developed and bench-tested on Control4 OS 4.2.1.
- An Ajax Baseline camera with ONVIF turned on in Ajax PRO.
- A Control4 dealer to add it in Composer Pro, as with any Control4 driver.
What it does not do
The Ajax Baseline camera does not offer a still-image (snapshot) address, so Control4 views that depend on a snapshot, such as the 2-column Multiview and History thumbnails, show the event's type icon instead of a picture. Live view, detections and History playback all work normally.
The driver does not record: the camera records to its own SD card, and the driver links to it for playback. Pan-tilt-zoom, two-way talk and the Ajax alarm are not part of it.
How to try it and buy it
A Control4 dealer downloads the driver from the driver page, adds it in Composer Pro, and it runs free for 14 days. A lifetime license is $149 and covers one Control4 project and every Ajax camera on it. The key is emailed on purchase and pasted into Composer Pro; the driver activates itself to the controller, with no MAC address to look up.
Homeowners with Control4 can have us install it. Rivas Technology Group is an Ajax Systems dealer and a Control4 Authorized Dealer, and we install both across the South Sound from Kent. The security cameras page covers the cameras themselves, and the Control4 page covers the rest of the system.
